About

So you scrolled past the borgar. Brave. Here's the grown-up version.

I'm Ricardo. I write backend code for a living — mostly Laravel, and have been doing exactly that since 2012.

The Short Version

  • backend engineer, based in Tilburg (NL)
  • 13+ years of PHP, 8+ years of Laravel, and counting
  • currently full-stack at Scrumble, though my heart sits firmly on the backend
  • before that: 7½ years at BE-Interactive, plus earlier stints at Solvari, Mediaversa and Hapek

The Stack, Roughly

The things I reach for often enough that they count:

Languages
PHP, SQL, TypeScript, some JavaScript
Laravel Side
Laravel (5 through 13), Eloquent, Artisan, Livewire (with Flux), Blade, Alpine, Inertia, Horizon, Scout, Sanctum, Socialite, Dusk, Filament — plus a deep shelf of Spatie packages
Testing & Tooling
PHPUnit (with Pest), PHPStan (with Larastan), Rector, Mockery, Xdebug, Pint, Composer
Frontend-ish
Vue, React, Tailwind, Bootstrap, Vite, Sass
Data
Postgres, MariaDB, SQLite, MySQL, Redis, Algolia
Infra & Ops
Docker, nginx, Supervisor, Git, GitHub Actions / GitLab CI, Cloudflare, Forge, Herd
Odds and Ends
Browsershot, Telegram bots, Cloudflare Turnstile, Stripe, Mollie, Sentry, Telescope, and a growing list of things I've glued together because it was faster than paying for a SaaS

The skill that isn't a bullet point above: knowing when to stop changing code by hand. If the same edit has to land in a hundred places, it's a Rector rule or a jscodeshift codemod. If the same code keeps showing up across projects, it's a package. Tests are the safety net either way.

Honorable mentions, in the "I've played with it, don't hire me for it" sense: Kotlin, Rust, Python, Groovy, C++, TouchDesigner, and whatever else catches my eye that week.

If you ctrl-F'd your way here looking for Laravel, hi.

What I've Been Doing

– now · Scrumble
Full-stack Developer. Tilburg.
· BE-Interactive
Laravel/PHP Developer. Seven and a half years of the same codebase growing up with me.
· Solvari
Laravel Developer. First role with Laravel on the business card; back when the framework was still on v5.
· Mediaversa
PHP Developer. Ran concurrently with school, because apparently I enjoyed being tired. No Laravel here yet — just where I first heard the word.
· Hapek Nederland
PHP Developer. Where I learned what a production bug feels like.

Things I've Shipped

Most of what I've built has been closed-source — no public repos to link. What I can link lives on /projects.

What I'm Looking For

A team that treats tests and refactors as part of shipping, not something to get to later. I like a sustainable pace. Shortcuts are a tool when they're deliberate and tracked — not an operating mode.
